Cotton Chambray

Chambray

Chambray cotton is a sturdy fabric with a smooth surface designed with a tight plain weave. The material is soft and comfortable and has a slight luster. Chambray has very soft coloring, which causes it to appear with a faded look. The downside of chambray is that it wrinkles easily. Chambray is often used for workman's shirts, whence the term "blue collar" comes from. The fabric is woven with a white weft and colored warp, usually light indigo blue, and is assembled with white top-stitching. This shirt, along with dark indigo blue denimjeans frequently was, and sometimes still is, the uniform of prisoners and thus referred to as "prison blues".
